Consistently getting quality back-links for websites is the key to long-term high ranking on google. This also helps maintain the quality of the site and in turn benefits the SEO.

Totally true and I am still amazed when I hear people tell me that they need to focus on bulding more pages instead of building more links.

Links are key to long-term ranking success, but not just any old links. Good links from relevant sites will always work best. The problem lies in getting those links, although with a little imagination it is possible.
