Sports Link Building - DoFollow Tuesdays

Every Tuesday we pick a vertical market based on the number of votes a market receives at our Vertical Market Poll. This week it is the Sports market. Based on the voting, this is not sporting goods stores, but sites about sports. We invite all of you out there to post (in the comments) a specific link building recommendation for the sports market (a good directory, authority website, blog, link search, etc.). If it adds value, we will approve it, give you the credit and a “dofollow” link to your site. However, we will just delete stupid, irrelevant, spammy comments – only truly useful information will be allowed.
It’s been a rather busy few days here and I have to admit, I am rushing to get this post finished. But, in a way, those of you looking for sports links may benefit from my hurried approach. You see rather than thoroughly investigating each resource, and taking the time to coach you on how to go about getting links, I am just going to list some sites that already offer links to sports related websites. As always, you need good content and a reason for them to link to you. But if you have it, there are a few gems below — including a PR7 and PR6 site. So go forth and get your sports sites listed!

If you are selling sports collectibles you need a way for your site to stand out from all the others selling the same thing. A catalog of all your items and prices won’t help with search engine ranking and linking.
There are two ways to help with this.
1) Add detailed text describing the item instead of a one line sentence. This will help from search engines determining that all of your item pages are duplicates.
2) Give background about your items. Lets say you are selling a few items from a certain athlete or event. Add a page describing the athlete or event. This will grow the number of pages in your site without being spammy (which search engines love) plus those pages usually have a better chance of ranking in search engines. It will also provide stickiness to your site. These pages are great for getting backlinks, search ranking and can be a great portal to introduce people to the sports memorabilia that you are selling.

For sports blogs, sites like Yardbarker.com, BallHype.com, and BleacherReport.com are all great sources for getting your content some exposure. YB and BH accept RSS feeds, and you can republish blog posts on BR with very small edits. YB and BR have connections to FoxSports.com, also, and publish some of their best content on that site. All are great tools for established link building.

If it’s a site that covers football, the guys at http://www.DaSuperfans.com will probably give it a look — especially if it’s funny.

Other sites, that give good links are dropjack.com, mixx.com and propeller.com. Mixx has nice niche communities as well

Ballhype.com is a great site. I heard they sold for 10 million plus. Don’t you wish you would of thought of something like that.
